Recent James Scholarship

It’s true that this page includes recent James scholarship, but it’s also meant to be a comprehensive bibliography on the Letter of James going back as far as possible. It’s obviously a work in progress. The same works are listed in alphabetical order on my James Bibliography page.

If you have other references not listed here, please feel free to give them to me in a comment. The most popular resources will not be included, but I would like to include as many graduate and postgraduate theses as possible. Most references pertain strictly to the Letter of James, but some are related more to James of Jerusalem or to other closely-related topics. I have focused mainly on English scholarship so far, but I’d like to include works in other research languages as well.

Please forgive the inconsistent style. It will eventually follow the Chicago Manual of Style (Turabian), but I have had to follow the LSA Stylesheet for my most recent study program, so some references are messed up. A big thanks to Jim Darlack at http://oldinthenew.org/ for helping me with quite a few of these resources.

Thanks Jim! If you like it, it’s good enough for me. Eventually, I’d like to do more with this, like create links to online journal access or to Amazon.com, add bookcover pictures, and most importantly, to add annotations.

Forthcoming in the summer of 2009 from Baylor University Press is a collection of papers from the SNTS seminar I co-chaired with Karl-Wilhelm Niebuhr (Jena) from 2000-2005 on “The Catholic Epistles and Apostolic Traditions.” This collection, edited by me and Niebuhr, will include a nice cache of papers around the theme, “The New Perspective on James”–the title of Niebuhr’s programmatic essay. The papers originally delivered in German are translated into English.

Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and all. However imagine if you added some great photos or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips, this site could certainly be one of the greatest in its niche. Very good blog!

    This is amazing, thank you.
